Last Night: Goodbye

6-19-10
I woke up and woke up Chelsey. I helped her last minute pack. Ellis and Taylor came up to say goodbye. After, I hung out until Chelsey had to leave. It was strange. After, I spent a good portion of the day packing my suitcases. I inherited 20 pesos of monedas for the high schoolers who also left today. Eventually, I was pretty much done so I hung out.
I went out to get food with Andrew and Catherine. We watched some of the people we live with play soccer. Eventually we went back to the residencia and just hung out and talked about various things. It was strange that its all ending. Eventually, Andrew started to get ready for bed and watched a movie on tv while he packed and I just chilled.

A calm last night - not too shabby.

Feeling the Music at La Bomba Pt. 2

6-18-10
After waking up,I hung out for a bit with friends and talked about our various nights. I saw Ellis and Taylor. They were busy trying to figure out their next move. I got lunch. After, I went with Ellis and Taylor to help them buy their tickets back to Brazil. After, we walked around and got some things. Then we went our separate ways for a bit.

At the residencia, I spent most of the time packing my bags. Getting near the end. I also said bye to several of the staff. Ellis, Taylor, Chelsey and I went out to dinner. I ate delicious ribs, and we enjoyed some good conversations. After, we chilled for like an hour. Then we headed out to La Bomba. There, we danced to the drumming and had a crazy fun time.

Goodbyes are never easy.

6-17-10
I woke up and watched the first half of the Argentina game at the residencia. At halftime, Chelsey and I headed to Ellis's hostel. There we watched the second half. It was pretty epic of a game. After, I walked among the horns and celebrations and headed to school. At school, I waited 2.5 hours (half an hour into the next class) just to get my grade. It was really annoying. Because of this, I missed lunch. I dropped off my grades and got food.

After, I packed a good portion. I then burnt a cd of photos of the kids from Aldea Yanapay for my friend to give them. I then hung out and packed. I went out and bought a new dress shirt before meeting up with friends for cupcakes. After, I got dressed and headed to the goodbye dinner.

It was delicious. It was an all you can eat place. We all drank and talked and had a good time. But then the goodbyes started and that is when things got sad. Say goodbye to the program directors, especially one was particularly hard. They have been family here and I have nothing but love for them.

After, I went to a friend's apartment where we watched the basketball game and hung with friends. Then I ran into Elysa from Guilford. We hung out and chilled and chatted about the land we miss. Then I headed home.

One more class till I am no longer a Junior

6-16-10
I woke up and studied for a likely oral exam in econ. I was unsure what to expect. I watched part of the Spain/Switzerland game which was extremely disappointing. After lunch, I headed to campus. At school, I awaited my fate. I checked my final grade where I had gotten a 6 on the final, putting me at 5 which is like a C+/B- range. When it was my turn to get him to give me a grade, he asked if I wanted to try and get some points. So I tried. I ended up getting the same score as before so I didn't lose or gain points which I was ok with. I felt so relieved after.

I relaxed in the cafeteria, talked to one of my program directors, and two friends about Arizona's immigration policies, Lost and more. Then I headed down to Spanish. There I waited for a while to take my oral. When it was my turn, my teacher and I talked about my travels, my beard(she was one of several people who suggested that I don't shave it but trim/clean it up),what I am doing when I first get back, real causal. I then got my grade and left.

My friend Ryan and I headed out to a skate park where I tried to take photos of him skating but lack a good lens for low light which was the case but it was cool. I talked to several skateboarders about stuff. Then I headed home. I got some dinner. Then Chelsey and I headed to Ellis's hostel. There we hung out with her, Taylor, and two Argentine women, and eventually a guy from Madrid who is about to study at the University of Washington. We talked about all kinds of thing. Better day than expected.

Not a bad day

6-15-10
I woke and headed to school not too much later. I studied with some friends. I then took the test which I thought I did pretty well on. I then had to head back and get the paper that he needed to write the grade on and comeback. I waited with friends for over an hour while he figured out our grades. After the wait and anticipation, as well as a nice political discussion with two friends, I got a 9. Two in a row.

After, my friend Mark and I headed to get food since I missed lunch at the residencia. We got sharwarmas. They were delicious. After, we parted ways. I met up with Ellis and Taylor. We went to a bar and watched the Brazi/North Korea game. I was disappointed in Brazil's first half. Luckily for them, they picked it up. After, I picked up the bag I had dropped off to get repaired. It got fixed. I then packed some and cleaned out a few papers. The end is coming close. I then relaxed for the hour or so till dinner.

After dinner, I got some ice cream, wrote and played some quiz games. I am currently watching the Celtics play a lack luster game.

3 Days of School Left

6-14-10
I woke up and breakfast. After, I reviewed some Spanish. I had to make a copy of my visa as well as one of my pages from my passport. After, I dropped off my suitcase to get fixed. I studied some more but then I met with Ellis and her friend Taylor who are town. After, I got lunch before heading to school. All of which was while fighting the rain.

At school, I studied while waiting to get my history grade. I got a 9 out of ten which is like an A not A-. Then I studied more. The exam, I thought it was pretty good. The article we had to read and answer questions about was about Jacob Zuma, South African president, the man who has many wives and how the second one who cheated on him. She turned out to be the one who I met last summer at the G8 event in Rome. After,I headed home. At home, I read and took notes on readings for tomorrow's final. I spent the majority of the evening on this minus hanging with Ellis and her friend for a bit.

The Beginning of the End

Or to see it bigger

Or to see it bigger

Or to see it bigger

6-13-10
I woke up and after getting photos uploaded, I started studying for Spanish. I spent most of the afternoon studying. I am not too worried but refreshers never hurt. I also skyped my dad and Abbey. I have so little time left. I am totally feeling bittersweet. Ellis is coming into town tomorrow for a few days which will be fun despite me being in the midst of finals. After Tuesday morning, I only have three orals. I got dinner and spent some of the evening studying as well.
7 days left. So weird. Final push we come.

Waking up to the Copa

6-12-10
I woke up to the city exploding from Argentina's first goal of the world cup against Nigeria. Good way to woke up. I am so glad I am here for the first part of the copa. I watched the game which Argentina ended up winning 1 to 0. I got lunch and chilled with friends and discussed our nights. I then watched the US and England tie 1 to 1. Good game, bad play by the English goalie. It was a day of heavy rain so I didn't do much. I did start the packing process.

Spent most of the afternoon, chilling and enjoying people's company. I got dinner with friends. Then hung out at night. I watch a movie because I was too exhausted to go out. 8 days left more or less. So weird.

Residencia Bonding

6-11-10
I woke up and got ready. I headed to the immigration office. There, after figuring out where exactly to go, I got the process of picking up my visa. This process only took 10-15 minutes since there was not many other people. I was rather shocked by that. I then headed home. At home, I ate lunch and watched the opening game of the Copa Mundial (World Cup). Fierce battle between South Africa and Mexico that ended in a tie.

It was Chelsey's birthday, and while her roommate got stuff for it. Chelsey and I walked around the Japanese Gardens and took photos and just talked. It was nice. We then walk from there to the place where Chelsey practices polo. It was cool. After hanging out and take some photos. We headed home, where we surprised Chelsey. After that, we got the dinner at the residencia. After figuring out a game plan, we got most of the residencia to come to a club called CroBar with us. It made the night cool and fun in a bittersweet way.

At the club, we were on the VIP list so we had a table and got there early for like some form of foods. It was a great way to just hang out and talk to some people. Then the live music blended with electronics started, and we all started dancing. It was a fun fill night of dancing, plenty of laughs, music from the last three decades (they love the music from the 80's here). It was a lot of fun to hang out with people whom I live with.

Overall one of the best nights I have had in this country.

Magical Realism and Dictatorships

6-10-10
I woke up and got breakfast. I applied some final edits to Abbey's edits of my paper. I headed to school where I printed my paper. In class, we discussed magical realism as well as the dictatorships in Argentina. After class, I headed home and got food. In the afternoon, I read some of Catch 22 and chilled. I had a skype date due to working internet. I hung with friends most of the evening. At night, I had dinner and talked to people then some of us went to a pool hall to play some pool.

Tomorrow: I hope to get my visa among other things.
Hope you enjoy the new look to the blog.

Feeling like I ripped off a band-aid

6-9-10
I woke up and studied the majority of the morning for my exam. I felt like I had a decent grasp on the material though not looking forward to it.I ate lunch and headed to school where I did some last minute studying. I knew some of the questions, others not so much including one where I completely blanked based on the wording. We shall see. Never again shall I take an Econ class, I can tell you this though I know Econ majors who don't like this class. After,I hung out with my program heads and chilled until Spanish.

In Spanish, we did our final prep for our exam on Monday. At home, I worked on my essay while dealing with crappy internet which eventually went dead (so I am writing this in the other building). In my break, I ate ice cream with friends. Paper is now done. This means, I am 4 oral exams and two written exams away from being with school till end of August, some sort of freedom.

Studying for a lost cause

6-8-10
Woke up and headed to class. We talked about the redemocratization and the final. So near the end, its crazy. After class, I picked up the paper I need to get my grades as well as some short stories for my literature class. I grabbed lunch at home. I spent the better part of the afternoon studying for the econ exam that I am not ready for. It just never has clicked for me and I regret not dropping the class when I had the chance. Wish me all the luck in the world.

Much needed

Forgotten Textbook

6-7-10
I woke up and worked on some Spanish homework and did some history reading. When I headed over to lunch, I was told I couldn't eat there today. So I headed to school, where I got a grilled sandwich and reviewed with friends. I then headed into the classroom. The test was pretty easy, I am feeling quite confident. After, I realized that I forgot my Spanish textbook at home. I called Andrew, my roommate to get him to bring it. While I waited for class and Andrew, I teased one of my program directors about the world cup and Argentina's chances.

Andrew forgot my book at home but it turns out it wasn't really needed for class. We mostly discussed the final next week. So it was all good. After, I headed home, where I started studying for my econ exam. I also finished off the paper due tomorrow. Found out most if not all of the rooms that were previously occupied by NYU students are now with 15 years here for twoish weeks doing a cultural experience, not even learning Spanish. Kind of strange.

Weekend of Goodbyes...Uploading Photos...Writing Papers

6-4-10
After a fun night celebrating my friend Melissa's birthday, I got up in time for my first make up class. We talked about the military dictatorships and the democratization. After, I headed home. There I got lunch and did homework for Spanish class, I eventually went to that class. We talked about the subjunctive. After, I hung out for the afternoon, and tried to start some of my papers. I then went out with two of my NYU friends, Lilly and Desiree, Andrea and Chelsey. We got some food. We then met up with other NYU people for their last night/two of their birthdays. It was fun though it was filled with goodbyes. But there was also a hello in the form of meeting the next door neighbor to my mom. For my final goodbyes for the night to some of the ones I am closest with, we got pizza and said goodbye. It was sad. I may go to NYC for my break in October to see them.

6-5-10
I woke up and worked on my papers. I also sent some postcards and got lunch. I eventually helped Desiree and Lilly get their bags in the cab and said my goodbyes, though I plan to see Desiree in Seattle where she lives. I spent most of the day saying working on papers and uploading photos. I got dinner and kicked it. I went out and hung out with some friends for a bit before coming home and going to bed.

6-6-10
I woke up and uploaded the last batch of photos. I met up with Matt and we got food and ice cream and continued our catching up. After, I wrote a good portion of my literature paper that is due on Thursday. I also skyped with my mom. I ate dinner and continued on my my paper.

All my photos are finally uploaded.

El Commandante

6/3/10
I woke up and got ready for school. I got to campus and bought myself a croissant since I missed breakfast. In class, more about Borges. I want to read more of his works some day, so I put his collected fiction my long amazon wish-list. After class, I headed home. There I ate lunch. I headed to Starbucks after to work on my History essay. I had planned to write about the School of Americas, but based on my thesis I couldn't find too much sources besides the basic information, and I didn't know what else to write about it. So I have gone to my backup option, Che. This way, I can find more sources and use quotes from books I used in a previous paper I wrote.

My friend Devin and I went for cupcakes. After, I went back to working on my paper but also talked to Abbey. I eventually had a quick bite to eat since I am now off to a birthday dinner.

On my way home in 17 days!!! AHH!!!!

Harry Potter and the Israeli/Palestine Conflict

6-2-10
After a fun party at Desiree's/Kika's. I woke up and did the rest of my Spanish reading. I also did some reading for myself. I grabbed lunch and talked to friends. I then struggled to break some money because in this country change is valuable and the only way to pay for the bus. I will not miss that. I got to school and headed to Econ. While this is the last real class, he still gave us new material instead of reviewing for the final. I will not miss this class at all.

After, I hung out with people from my program before in Spanish. In Spanish, we practiced the subjunctive. My teacher is apparently Harry Potter because she feels like it is really crappy writing. We kept fighting her on it. It was pretty amusing. We also talked about the Israel/Palestinian issue. After, I headed home.

I went to the store, and got the shirt. I practiced with the buttons and it seems to work. Woot woot!!! Then I headed home. There I worked on my Political & Social Change paper. The assignment is two to three pages double spaced, and bullet points. I am writing about Mexico and more or less finished which is really nice since I have two other papers to write, and two finals next week. Not fun. I am hoping to finish out or get close to finishing another paper tomorrow afternoon, though I also have another birthday dinner tomorrow night

Broken Button and Canceled Classes

6-1-10
I overslept a bit and had to quickly ready for school. After showing up late, I found out it was canceled. So I wasted effort in the rush but I made the most of it and turned in my visa finally. I then headed home. I grabbed lunch. When I took off my new shirt to shower, one of the buttons broke. After, I went to try to get it fixed, the store told me that they can try to fix it tomorrow or give me the money back so we shall see what happens.

Most of the afternoon, I started to research for some of my papers, swapped music with friends, and chatted with some who are leaving on Saturday.

Tonight is the first of three birthday bashes this week

Colombian Drug Dealing Model

5-31-10
I woke up and grabbed breakfast. I worked a bit on my homework and uploaded photos. I also dropped off laundry (maybe the last load before I leave). I then grabbed lunch and ate with friends. I then headed to school. At school, I talked to friends while waiting for class to begin. In history, we talked about our papers due next week, I am doing one about the School of Americas, as well as our final that is going to be less intense than our not so difficult final. We then watched a documentary about the failure that was the Falklands war.

I hung out with some of my program heads and friends. We talked about various things including my cuts (ps, I am slightly afraid of the buses now or at least really hesitant about getting off). In Spanish, we talked about another future tense as well as the subjunctive, my mortal enemy. I had my presentation about a newspaper article. I chose an article about this 30 year old Colombian model who got arrested here for being a head of a narcotics trade. Its been one of the big stories recently.

After school, I headed home, where I tried to upload photos and talked to friends. I had dinner and chilled and read for class.

Tomorrow's plan: Class, lunch, going to a cafe to work on a paper/upload photos, dinner, then a friend's birthday party.

Rainy Days and Taking Photos

5-29-10
So I woke up to rain, which was very sad. I wanted to go out and see things since I only have three weeks left but the rain hindered these plans. Chelsey and I decided to get food. We ate at a delicious vegetarian restaurant near our residence. We walked around and got cupcakes. I had a red velvet one and a standard one. They were delicious. After, we went into a store. I bought a shirt. We then headed home. I tried to upload photos but it is taking forever because of the internet speed.

I hung out with people. I ate random food leftovers from friends, including an Ecuadorian dish and some nachos. I chilled with friends for a bit. Then I got showered and changed. I went and met up with my NYU friends. We then headed to a club. It was a really fun night

5-30-10
I woke up. I showered and got dressed. Chelsey and I headed out. We went to La Boca to take photos. That is the neighborhood with the various colored buildings. We took photo and looked around. I had a delicious choripan for lunch. After, we headed to the bookstore that I went to earlier in the semester. I took photos and bought Chronicle of a Death Foretold but in Spanish to practice. I am excited. We headed home, where I have been eating food, and hanging with friends and trying to upload photos.

Falling off the Bus

5-28-10
After going out for a friend's last night in Buenos Aires, I had to wake up unfortunately for class due to a make up to the holidays earlier in the wake. In class, we talked about post populism in South America. We also talked about our final paper, which I need to chose a country to write about, as well as the final exam. I then headed home. I ran into a friend on the bus who I hadn't seen in almost two weeks or so. We caught up.

I got off the bus, just a bit too early before it had stopped completely which you are recommended to do because they don't always stop. I had done this before. But today was slightly different. My legs couldn't handled it, and I fell straight down. I looked up, and no one tried to help me (lucky I didn't hit my head), but I saw my friend's face on the bus, she looked a bit worried. As I headed home, I noticed I had two cuts on my arm and on my hip.

I headed home. There, I grabbed lunch. After, I cleaned my wounds. I napped since I had a less than productive night of sleep. It was wonderful. I tried uploading photos after. Its taking forever due to the terrible internet connection. I hung out and then went to dinner. I talked to friends there and ate. I hung out and chatted with friends after dinner, and then Chelsey and I went out for a bit.

5-27-10

I got up for breakfast this morning. I ate some food and then got ready for class. I headed to school and printed my paper that I wrote last week. I then headed to class. We talked about Jorge Luis Borges among other topics. I headed home after school. I ate lunch, and uploaded photos. I napped for part of the afternoon. A pretty simple day. Unfortunately I have class tomorrow which I am not too excited for especially since it is a morning class. I also have to come up with topics for various papers that I have. Hmm...

My photos are slowly getting uploaded. I will let you know when they are all up.

The Parade/Editing Photos

5-25-10 continued
I hung out for a bit. Then Andrea, Chelsey and I headed into the madness that was downtown. We got off at Nueve de Julio. We walked around. I bought an Argentine flag. We met up with friends and walked around. We sat in Starbucks and kind of relaxed from the insanity of the big day. We finally headed into Plaza de Mayo for the parade. After like 20 min, not much was happening so some people headed back, leaving Tracey and I there. We watched it for like 30 minutes or so. It was really disorganized in a very comical way. I got video. I will put all my videos up when I get back stateside since the internet is bad and I can also edit them. We then headed home.

I relaxed and edited photos till bed.

5-26-10
I woke up and edited more photos. I then ready for school and ate lunch with friends. I went to class. My economics class was alright. Next week is our last class class which is really weird to think about. So much left but so little time. In Spanish, we went over imperatives. It was good to review it since I haven't learned that in like 3 or 4 years. I headed. I chilled for a bit and edited photos. I got money from the bank. I ate dinner with friends. We caught up on things.

I started the process of uploading photos, we shall see how long it takes. I went to Starbucks for a hot drink with Chelsey since it is starting to get cold here. No me gusta. Then I hung out and talked to friends.

Having an elephant as a roommate.

5-24-10
I woke up after a hard night sleep, due to one of my roommates, whose spirit animal must be an elephant based on the way he snored. I showered and packed my bags. Then I stored them, while I headed out. I walked around Tucuman a bit. Near my hostel, was a former detention center from the "Dirty War." It was interesting to see from the outside. There was a memorial for those who were imprisoned it. I continued just exploring. I grabbed lunch.

Eventually, I headed back and grabbed my bags and headed to the bus station. There was some bird exhibition happening at the mall that was attached to the station. I watched some of the exhibition game between Argentina and Canada. I then boarded my bus. There, I finished the Isabel Allende book and read a whole Michael Crichton book that I liked. I slept most of the rest of the time and listened to music

5-25-10
After getting my stuff, I have come back to the residencia. I unpacked, and said hi to friends and separated my photos into their files. Today, I am not sure what I will be doing minus celebrating the big day with the rest of the city.

Change of Plans isn´t always Bad

5-23-10
I woke up after a very cold night and had breakfast. I bet you can guess what I had. I then showered and got my bag packed. I took a cab to the bus terminal. I decided to try to go back to Buenos Aires in time for the bicentennial celebrations. I bought a ticket to Tucuman with the hope that I could move up my ticket that is suppose to leave Wednesday. After waiting for my bus, we departed. I read more of my Isabel Allende book and listened to music while on the road.

Like most things in Argentina, nothing is on time. Had my first bus been on time, there is a chance I could have made the bus back to Buenos Aires today, but nope. But the positive thing is that I won´t lose money on the ticket and can leave tomorrow getting me back Tuesday morning in time for whatever Argentina has in store for Tuesday night. I figured that I have seen a lot on this trip, and plan to come back to see more. But how more chances will have to experience something like this. No regrets.

I am now in a hostel for the night.

On the Road

5-22-10
I woke up and grabbed breakfast. Again, it consisted of tea and toast. I then packed my bags up and headed out the door. Luckily, I headed out when I did, because my bus was pulling out when I showed up but I was able to get on. The ride to Humahuaca was a pretty one but I barely made it to my second bus. I actually didn´t but made one that left right after. This bus ride was somewhat stressful because it often was driving near the cliffs. But I survived. After 2.5 hours or so, I got to Iruya. It was a pretty hillside town. I took some pictures and ate llama milnesia for lunch. I then walked around and took some photos, including some of condors.

I then got back on the bus to head back. Besides the stress of driving along the edges, I gave myself a minor panic attack worrying that my bags, especially the one with my passport and wallet would fall off and be loss. When we reached a pit stop, I checked and it was fine. I moved that bag down with me. When we got off the dirt road and headed back to the paved road, we got a flat so it took like 10 minutes or so to fix.We eventually got back to Humahuaca. There I made my decision about where next to go. I chose Jujuy because it was close and easy to get to Cachi, my plan destination for tomorrow. I waited for a bit for my bus. Then I got on. I pretty much listened to music the whole way. I have arrived to Jujuy. We shall about me trying to get to Cachi.

Hiking in the Desert/A Spot of Bad Luck

5-21-10
Since the post earlier today, I walked around and bought bus tickets for tomorrow. I then walked around and headed to a place called Pancara. This is an ancient ruins a little outside the city of Tilcara. It was pratically stone buildings and cacti all over the place but still beautiful. I took some self portaits, and then had a couple take a photo of me. I then headed down.

I then headed to Garganta del Diablo. It turned out to be a 5 or 6 km hike. I was not prepared for this. But somehow found the strength to push on, despite minimal food and water in my body. It was one of the hardest ones I have had to do because of the beating sun which I had also not expected. I finally reached the entrance. I filled up my water bottle. I checked it out. Then I headed back up to the entrance. I rested and tried to get the energy to walk back down. Luckily, I met saviors in the form of a Porteño couple who drove me down. They were really nice. We talked (in Spanish of course) about random stuff.

After, I headed toward my hostel when I stumbled upon a show by the school children for the 200th anniversery of the country. It was cute. I then hung out at the hostel. I discovered I had lost one of my debit cards. I searched all over my bags but no such luck. Somewhere between Wednesday and today, it has vanished into the abyss. Luckily I have the other. I hung out and talked to the other guests before having dinner with some of the people who run the hostel. Soon I plan to sleep, who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Salta at Night/12 Hours in the Desert/Pumamarca

5-19-10 continued.
Since my last post, I took a gondola up the mountain that looks over Salta. I was scared the whole way up but survived and it was beautiful. I took pictures from up there. Then walked the 1073 steps down and walked back to my hostel. I rested for a bit. Then I went around the main places in Salta and took night photos. I then back to my hostel for a bit. Then I headed to the other affiliated hostel for a free BBQ. There I met up with my friend Lisa from my program, and met a friend of hers from her stay in Salta. Turns out her friend is from LA and went to Marlborough and graduated with my friends from there. Small world yet again. I ate delicious food and had wonderful convos. Then I headed back to my hostel to go to bed for my early morning.

5-20-10
After a bad night of sleep, I finally got up at 6:25. I got my stuff together and headed to breakfast. I ate and waited to be picked up. Finally, the van came and I got in. I was with 2 Basques, 2 Australians, 5 Argentines and 1 Brit. We headed out. Our first stop was in a place called Campo Quijano. There we saw a train that used to be part of the train of the clouds. Then we headed out again. I fell asleep for a bit. I woke up when we heading out to see some of the bridges and tracks of the train of the clouds. We got a history lesson on it while we drove out. After some photos, we headed back onto the road. We stopped to take pictures of the beautiful rocks and then stopped in a small town called Santa Rosa de Tastil. There were people selling things. I wandered around and took photos. We then hit the road again, with a stop at a place called Abra Blanca which is 4080 meters above sea level.

We stopped for lunch in a town called San Antonio de Los Corbes. It was a cute little town. I ate llama and rice. It was really good and would eat it again. I took some photos around the town especially of a cute little kid. Then we headed back on the bus. It was like a two hour ride to the Salinas Grandes (salt flats) so I slept most of the way. We arrived. I saw two girls i knew from University of Belgrano so we hung out and took photos. I wandered around and took more. It was beautiful. Eventually, I got back in the van and we headed out. We were now heading to Purmamarca. We stopped at a point called Altos del Morado, which is 4170 meters above sea level. We stopped once more to take photos of the beautiful rocks.

We finally reached Purmamarca, where I grabbed my stuff and wandered the roads. I eventually found a hostel. I dropped my bags. I wandered the small town. They had a market in the center which I checked out. I then followed a road and ended up walking around Los Cerros de Siete Colores (the rocks of seven colors). It was so beautiful. I want to come back here one day. I ran into the Australians, Basques and two girls I saw at the Salt Flats. I took many photos.

I headed back to my hostel. There I showered for the first time since Tuesday. I then walked the town and got dinner. At my hostel, they had a show, which I took some photos and video. I then got ready for bed and slept for the greater part of 10 hours. It was amazing.

5-21-10
I woke up and grabbed breakfast (tea and toast). I then packed my bags and walked around until the bus came to Tilcara. After a 45 minute ride. I have now arrived in Tilcara. A plan is possibly formulating for the rest of the trip. But we shall see. I will be wandering the streets and the mountains of the beautiful area. It is amazing how pretty it is.

22 Hours, 4 movies, but happiness about being here

5-18-10
I woke up and quickly got ready. I headed out the door when I realized I forgot my ID. I then hurried to school. At school, I did some studying with friends. My professor was there but my History teacher played sub. We took the exam. I then headed home on the bus, where I saw soldiers doing drills. At home, I packed and grabbed lunch. I made sure everything was in order. I then headed out the door.

I got the bus station where I relaxed for a bit until I saw my bus was ready. I boarded it but few people joined. I figured more would come on the 20 hour ride. I napped for a little bit. Then I awoke in time to watch the Blind Side. The subtitles were major fails, they seemed to by ear instead of reading the script. For example, instead of Clemson, they put California. After the movie, I read until they put on the Proposal. This time the subtitles seemed to be more commentary with few scenes with subtitles in Spanish. We periodically would stop and pick people up. They put on the Boy with Striped Pajamas. Depressing movie. They need to realize what they are putting on there. Then I went to bed.

5-19-10
After a rough night of sleep, I woke up around 9:30. They put on Seven Pounds in Spanish. I read and finished my book so I have now moved onto an Isabel Allende book. After a few hours more, we finally got to Salta. I took a cab to my hostel and checked in. After, I grabbed two superpanchos (hot dogs) and ate them since I was super hungry. Then I walked around the main part of the city for a bit. I saw a travel place and booked the next leg of this trip. Tomorrow, I am going to the Salt Flats, some towns and going to end up in Pumamarca. After that, I only have possibilities. I have to be in Tucuman by next Wednesday. Between tomorrow and then, I have no idea where I will be until the day before. But that is part of this trip to go with it. I have possibilities but no definites. I will post when possible.

Con Amor y Paz,
Jack

Dirty War and Chocolate Cupcake

5-17-10
I woke up and studied a bit more but not much. I packed some but had to drop off laundry. I then had lunch and talked a friend who just got back from Salta and Bolivia. I then headed to school. In History, we watched a very emotional documentary about the people who disappeared during the "Dirty War." I knew it was a very tragic thing but I had no idea what exactly had occurred until I saw this movie and the fact that my teacher was in tears after it. It was a real eye opener.

In Spanish, we went over the homework and had some presentations. After class, I talked to friends before heading home. On the way home, I bought myself a cupcake for later. I studied and wrote a paper about Evita for my literature class since I won't be able to write it in class on Thursday. I then talked to Abbey before picking up my laundry and packing some more. I then had dinner and packed some more. I then finished my paper and studied some more. I may or may not write a short entry before I leave tomorrow but if I don't. I will try to show some proof of my travels while I am about on here if possible, since I don't know the internet connection.

But here are some of many words that I will be carrying with me on my travels

“To the desert go prophets and hermits; through deserts go pilgrims and exiles. Here the leaders of the great religions have sought the therapeutic and spiritual values of retreat, not to escape but to find reality.” - Paul Shepard

“See the world as your self.
Have faith in the way things are.
Love the world as your self;
then you can care for all things.” – Chapter 13 of the Tao Te Ching

"who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed?" – Hunter S Thompson

"A man could be a lover and defender of the wilderness without ever in his lifetime leaving the boundaries of asphalt, powerlines, and right-angled surfaces. We need wilderness whether or not we ever set foot in it. We need a refuge even though we may never need to set foot in it. We need the possibility of escape as surely as we need hope; without it the life of the cities would drive all men into crime or drugs or psychoanalysis." – Edward Abbey

"I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move."— Robert Louis Stevenson

Un Ratito doesn't mean an Hour and a Half...

5-14-10
I woke up at 7ish and headed out the hospital. I took a cab because I was too tired to walk. Upon my arrival, I checked in and was told to wait a "ratito" (a second basically). But a second here is so much longer. In this case, it was an hour and half. I would start to nod off occasionally and catch myself. My doctor swung by and tried to hurry things along. I finally got permission to go up and get the remicade.

I then headed upstairs where I was to get it. I met another doctor who would be helping me. I then was told that I could move into a room. I ended up getting a bed that usually would seem for a stay in patient. I didn't complained since I figured it allow me to get much needed sleep. I waited for a while and also filled out some forms. I then nodded off a bit while they got it all prepared. I then got the pre stuff and after a while, I waited for the real stuff. It took a while so I just told them that I am going to sleep and they can change it. I put on Cat Power and fell asleep. I spent the better part of the next three hours or so asleep. It was wonderful. I then woke up and watch the final bit drag on. I talked to my doctor and left the hospital. After, I grabbed some much needed food and headed home. I relaxed most of the afternoon and slept some more. I then hung out till dinner. I ate with friends. We made some potential plans. I hung with friends and then some of us went out to a place. Then I headed to bed.

5-15-10
I woke up and talked to friends for a bit. Then I met up with my friend Matt from Brentwood. We got lunch and talked. He told me that one of our classmates is also studying abroad here. After lunch, we walked around. I tried to get a prescription filled but they said I needed a prescription, one which I had until I realized it got thrown out by accident. We walked around a bit more. On the way, we ran into the classmate of ours that we had just been discussing. SMALL WORLD. It was nice to talk to her and we are planning to hang out sometime. Then I walked home and said bye to Matt. After, I tried to find other pharmacies to get it filled. One sent me to another which sent me to another one. I decided to wait till Sunday since it was annoying going further and further away to find this medicine. I will not miss this. I then headed home.

At home, I watched the Al Pacino classic "Dog Day Afternoon." It was instant love in my mind. A great movie, great performances by the leads. After, I went searching for food and then chatted with friends. I then discussed the plans for the night with friends. We got all dressed up and were planning to go to a nice club. Then Andrea and Chelsey and I headed to Andrea's friend's apartment. There we hung out with Argentines and chilled before heading to the the club. At the club, we met up with our NYU friends. We danced and had good times, in the various rooms playing different kind of music. We were there for a good while. Eventually, got tired and tried for a while to get a cab in the cold. I had not expected such a cold here. I didn't pack for it. Un disatre. Eventually, we got home and I slept

5-16-10
I woke up. I then uploaded photos from last night. Then I headed out to the pharmacy I was recommended. I was able to get my medicine finally!! Then I grabbed lunch and headed home. At home, I skyped with my mom and brother which was nice. I then studied for my upcoming exam. I eventually went to dinner with three NYU friends, Lilly from Oakland, Desiree (a different one than the one I have mentioned before) who is from near Seattle, and Natty from Portland Maine. After, I have studied, done Spanish homework and about to catch up in my journal.

An afternoon at Alto Palermo

5-13-10
I woke up and grabbed breakfast. I then got ready and headed to class. When I got school, I placed an order for the newest book I have to read for class. I was worried I was going to be late for class, since we had a three hour class. But when I showed up, my peers were waiting. Turns out the teacher didn't show, so I could have got more sleep.

After an hour of waiting and talking to friends, we finally started class. In class we discussed the latest book, Santa Evita. I am not sure how I feel about the book. After, I picked up the book and headed home. I ate lunch and relaxed for a bit. Then I headed out.

I got to the mall where I was told I could buy my bus tickets. I searched for a while. Finally when I asked, they sent me to the basement where I could buy my tickets. I finally did. I am leaving Tuesday at 2:30 and coming back the following Thursday at 9 in the morning. I am really excited. I then headed home. I dropped my stuff and headed back out to the mall to meet some friends. We saw Robin Hood. It was pretty good, not amazing like Gladiator but entertaining. It set up a possible sequel and I hope they have one. I then headed home.

At home, I had dinner, then watched the Cavs lose to the Celtics before bed. Tomorrow I get my Remicade treatment.

Club Sandwhich and Economics

5-12-10
After reaching some success and waking up for breakfast, I did my Spanish homework. After which, I read for a bit. Then I got ready for the day and headed out. My friend Desiree and I grabbed lunch and caught up on our lives. It was quite nice. Then we headed to class.

In my economics class, it was more talking about how Latin America is so far behind the rest of the world (minus Africa). I will not miss this class for sure. In Spanish, we reviewed some of the stuff from Monday as well as talked about the conditional.

After, I headed home to nap for a little while and caught up in my journal. Then I hung with people before dinner. After food, I pretty much chilled. Have another long class tomorrow, then planning to have lunch, buy my tickets to Salta and back. Then no idea.

Sports Challenge

5-11-10
I woke up and got ready for the day. Then I headed to class. In class, we discussed our midterm for next week, as well as other topics relating to the class. After, I went and talked to my adviser about the attendance problem. Turns out because my class changed buildings that they haven't completely fix the attendance thing so it says I haven't been going to class in the right building but it should be fixed soon.

After, Mark and I went upstairs and talked to people about travel plans with people. I then headed home. I ate lunch. I took a brief nap before talking to Abbey and then my mom. After, I hung out and read and talked to friends before having dinner. After dinner, I talked to some friends and tried to work on an apartment rental apartment. I then played a game with Joe and Catherine about who can name the most MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL teams in 30 minutes. I won with getting all 30 baseball teams, 32 football teams, 29 basketball teams (forgot the Memphis Grizzlies) and 26 out of the 30 NHL teams. I was rather impressed by the amount of NHL teams I got. I then got read for bed.

All my photos from Sunday can be found here.

Jackhammer Alarm Clock and Bogus Attendance

5-10-10
I missed breakfast to enjoy sleep but this was short lived due to a jackhammer outside pounding away at the sidewalk. I got up, and showered. I then studied for my history exam. I knew most of the material. I eventually got ready and headed to lunch. After a quick bite to eat, I headed to school. There I met up with some of my classmates and studied before taking my exam. I think I did well but I don't know based on the point scheme.

After, I chilled since I had a thirty minute gap between classes. I then headed to Spanish where we learned a new tense and talked about the Barajas bombing in December 2006. After class, I headed home. At home, I almost napped but didn't. My friend Chelsey came in and complained about some problem with the attendance policy. Here you swipe your student card. When I checked my attendance for my classes, I was doing fine except for one that is at 18% which is bogus. I plan to eat with my adviser about it tomorrow because it is a lie. So frustrating. I will not miss this system at ALL. After, I chilled before going to get a bite to eat. Then Chelsey and I headed to our friend Mark's homestay for his birthday. His host mom made all the guests delicious food, and a delicious cake dulce de leche frosting. We talked and played games before I headed home.

Delicious Mexican Food...Cupcakes...Ferrias...Peronism

5-7-10
I woke up for breakfast and grabbed my friends Chelsey and Joe. We headed to the immigrations office. There we met up with the most of group and waited for our times to get the visas. We talked travels and other stuff. I am finally got my visa and now an Argentine citizen for the time being. Such a nice feeling. I then headed home and ate lunch. I relaxed and ended up taking a two and a half hour nap, fueled by the singing of Cat Power. When I woke up, I relaxed for a bit before getting dinner. After dinner, I hung out before going to a friend's apartment. It was fun before I got tired and went to bed.

5-8-10
I woke up and relaxed for a bit. It was my friend Joe's birthday. We went out to get Mexican food for lunch and then a bakery for treats. I relaxed for most of the day which was nice. I studied for a bit for my history exam. I grabbed dinner and talked to friends. It was a very nice and peaceful Saturday.

5-9-10
I woke up and got ready. I then headed out with people from the residencia. We met up with fellow CEAers and headed to a feria, an hour or so outside the main part of the city. There were lots of vendors and live music. It was interesting. I had delicious food and look at what different people were offering. Then I met up with the group and we went into a very strange museum. It depicted how to best make various meat dishes as well as stuff about the Guacho lifestyle and more. Very random. A lot of us were unsure what to think.

After, Chelsey and I walked around for a while trying to find the bus home. After a long time, we found it. We talked with other friends of ours on the bus. At home, I studied and skyped my dad. I got food and studied some more. I think I will do alright. I am just trying to predict the possible questions my teacher can ask.

Seven Madmen & Evita

5-5-10 cont.
So I went to a Cinco de Mayo party where I ate delicious tacos and made new friends, including two Porteños, and a guy from New Delhi. They were really cool and I enjoyed their company. Then I danced with friends before heading to bed.

5-6-10
Unfortunately, to make up for a lost class, my literature class is splitting it over two classes so I had class from 10 to 1. It was hard to get up for it but I did. I got to class, where only half of mine or so showed up. The first hour was occupied with writing an in class essay about the Seven Madmen. After, we watched a documentary about Evita, since our next book is about her. After I got my passport photo taken for the visa process happening tomorrow. I then had lunch and relaxed for most of the afternoon. I took care of more things needed for the visa process as well as cleaned up my stuff a bit. I had dinner with friends where we talked about trips with the woman who cooks our food, who made fun of some of the programs for some of the trips to boring places like Rosario. It was pretty funny.

Tomorrow, should be getting my student visa.

Cinco de Mayo

5-5-10
I woke up and grabbed breakfast. I studied most of the morning before I had lunch. I then took the bus and talked to friends. I then asked one of my program heads about taking the train here. I think I have the possibility of saving money if I do the 9 day trip, by taking the train where it would take 26 hours instead of 20 hours, but save maybe lots of money and I have done longer on a train so I wouldn't mind. Then I headed to class.

In economics class, we talked about the European crisis and its affect on Latin America. My teacher was extremely non-PC today. Among his things, he said that Bernie Madoff is a saint compared to some Argentine people. It was pretty insane. After class, I and others headed to our Spanish class for our exam. For me, I think it went well. I mean we shall see. I then headed home. I relaxed and talked to friends. I watched Lost and had dinner.

Tonight's plan, go out and eat Mexican food with friends for Cinco de Mayo, the American holiday.

I woke up after a bad night of sleep. I barely made it in time for class. My professor wasn't there but my history teacher was. She talked about various topics. After, I hung out and I talked to my friend Mark, from Westchester MA. We talked our classes, our Spanish exam and travels. Other friends soon joined us. I grabbed some food and talked.

I eventually headed home. There I studied for my Spanish exam. I am not too worried about. Just have to get some grammatical stuff done. In my study breaks, I talked to people and editing some photos for the fun of it. I studied pretty much until dinner. I ate and chatted with people. I talked to Abbey and relaxed most of the evening.

Still debating the length of my trip to Salta.
This picture is from my friend's trip there. She has given me her itinerary and I would base mine off hers because her trip sounded and looked amazing.

More time in Salta or Bicentennial Celebrations???

5-3-10
I woke up and went to breakfast. After, I was so tired that I went back to bed for a bit. I woke up and looked over some Spanish stuff as while my friend, who went to Salta a few weeks ago, itinerary. I then grabbed some lunch before heading to class. In history class, we talked about Cuba, Peron and more as well as our midterm. After class got out, I talked to Pamela about what could be happening on May 25th, the bicentennial but the Argentine government hasn't decided yet. Only in Argentina. I asked her about this because I am debating if I should stay in Salta longer. Here are the two options.

Plan A: Leave the 18th, get there the 19th and stay in the area till the 23rd and come back the 24th. Only miss three classes but also see a lot less of the area.

Plan B: Leave the 18th, get there the 19th and stay in the area till the 27rd and come back the 28th. Miss 6 classes but also see a lot more of the area.

So I am now trying to figure what to do. I eventually went to Spanish class. We talked about our midterm that is on Wednesday (Cinco de Mayo). After class, I replaced my broken headphones before coming home and studying for a bit for Spanish. I then talked to Abbey for a bit before dinner. After dinner, I studied some more before I headed to a goodnight sleep. I hope...

Lazy Sunday

5-1-10 continued
The plan ended up meeting up with NYU people, for third day in a row. We all went out to a club. It was ubercrowded but fun. I met some new NYU people who are real cool. We talked downstairs, and then we danced. After a while, there were just three of us. We made the best of it and danced until it closed. We grabbed some breakfast before one got in a cab and went home. I walked the other one home and then headed home myself.

5-2-10
After lots of sleep, I woke up and did some homework. I grabbed some lunch. I took a pause in between homework and watched "Lost in Translation." I then finished my homework and talked to Abbey. Eventually, some of my friends and I went out to dinner. After, I relaxed and wrote in my journal and talked to friends.

2 Goodbyes and 1 Hello Again

5-1-10
I enjoyed a heavy sleep. I relaxed most of the morning. I talked some friends. Two of which left today, due to them just taking Spanish classes. I grabbed lunch and talked to Abbey. Then I hung out with some of the Latin Americans living in the residencia along with some Americans as we prepared to say goodbyes. We had laughs and tears. Then we said bye. One of them lives in Chicago and another in southern Virginia so very easy to see them and to keep in touch. After, I chilled some more. The city was packed with people due to being May Day. I talked to people in the residencia. Andrew and I went to see Iron Man 2, a week before it comes out in the US. I ran into a girl who I volunteered with in Cusco. Small world (YET AGAIN!!) I liked the movie a lot. Good set up for others.

49 days until I leave
50 days until I am home.
So weird.

Figuring out my plans for Salta but I am leaving the 18th and coming back the 24th. Missing only two days of classes.

"We no longer have to rob the pharmacy" - Nahuel

4-30-10
After my night out, I woke up and relaxed for a bit. Then I headed out to my doctor and set up Remicade. It was such a beautiful day that I walked the 20 blocks to the hospital. After waiting for sometime, I talked my doctor. We set up an appointment for the 14th. Woot woot!!! After I met up with the people who will be doing the process.

I then headed out to a lunch. The lunch was a goodbye one for all the people who were in just Spanish classes. It is so strange that people are leaving already. The lunch was amazing. It was all you can eat buffet of Argentine/Spanish food. Sooooo delicious. After, Chelsey and I walked back and relaxed. Eventually, I called Kelsey and Alex via Skype. It was nice to talk to them. Among other topics, we talked about our apartment. Kelsey and Alex are planning to move in early August. Andrew and I then headed to get stuff for International Night at the university. It was fun but eventually my friend Jamie and I headed back to the residencia. I got food and hung out with friends. No idea for the rest of the evening.

Getting LOST

4-29-10
I woke up and did the bibliography for my paper. I then emailed it to myself and headed out to class. When I got to school, I went in printed my paper and headed up. My teacher was late but showed up. We discussed random things about Seven Madmen and related its themes to the themes of Tango songs. It was interesting. After class, I went to lunch with some friends and ate delicious food. I then headed home. I tried to continue to watch the Natural but fell asleep. I was out for at least an hour or so. I relaxed and talked to friends at dinner. I then decided that I was either going to go out out or go out and see a movie. Eventually one of my friends from NYU came up with a plan, so I went out with her and some of her peers for a bit then she and I went to a club where I danced and had a good ole time.

Getting the paper done

4-28-10
I woke up and had breakfast. After, I continued to work on my paper while uploading my photos from the weekend. It was really taking a while. I then had lunch with friends. I headed to school to pick up some papers that could help with my paper. I decided to swipe in. I thought my economics class was canceled but it was not. But he barely was on topic. I passed my midterm but hope to improve my score for the final.

After, I had Spanish class. I had a headache relating to my cold. So I went to the nurse to get an aspirin. We went over some stuff that will be related to the midterm that is next week. Eventually school was over, and I talked to friends. I then headed to Starbucks to work on my paper. I got myself a Blueberry Muffin and went to work. I was able to write some more pages before I headed home. At home, I talked to some girls about my trip to Peru since they are going there some time, while I ate dinner. After dinner, I finished my paper. I then rewarded myself with some ice cream and started the Natural before I fell asleep

Writing an Essay

4-27-10
I woke up and went to breakfast. I talked to some of the friends including people who are in the same literature class that I am in. We talked about the paper due on Thursday. I decided that in my best interest I would skip my class today in order to have more time on my paper. After getting showered and ready, I headed to school. At school, I tried to find a book the library that my teacher said would help with the paper. But alas it wasn't.

It was lunch time, so I ate with my friend Cassi and Lucilia. We talked about homework, trips (Lucilia gave me advice on my plans on Salta) and more. I also pulled up some websites to help me out with the paper. Eventually, I went back to the library and wrote some of my paper. Then I couldn't get a strong enough internet connection so I moved onto Starbucks and wrote nearly two out of the five pages by the end of it. I was planning to write more tonight but the internet back at the residencia wasn't that great. I am planning to wake up tomorrow morning and writing a good portion before Spanish since I don't have economics tomorrow.

I emailed my uncle and I am pretty sure now I have a job for the summer. I also emailed some people who posted on Craiglist about weddings in the Seattle area over the summer. So we shall see about that too.

I am currently fighting a cold

A weekend of just LIVING

The Empty Road
Me on top of a massive slab of rock that Ryan and I climbed

The Guacho who led the horse riding

Just a fraction of the land of the Algodon vineyard

The mountain I climbed solo on Sunday

My view from my solo hike

The view from part of the horseback riding

4-22-10
I woke up but decided to sleep in instead of breakfast. I showered and shaved. I then grabbed my stuff for my literature class. At school, I hung out with one of my partners for my presentation. I grabbed some juice and croissant before class. I then hung out until class. In class, we discussed the Seven Madmen. We got some background information about the author. Then my presentation came up and it went smoothly.

After school, I hung out at the residencia. I read some about the NFL draft which I was missing this weekend. I met up with Michele. We walked and talked. We had lunch at a Chinese place near where I am living. After, we walked and talked more before we had to say bye till who knows when. I then went home and packed. After packing, I went to withdraw money. I also bought some nice pants for myself to wear out sometime. I then talked to Abbey for a bit. Then Chelsey, Joe and I went and grabbed food and headed to school.

On the bus, I hung out and talked to a lot of the people who were near me. We played some new form of Bingo. I got close to winning but didn't. We had dinner which was ok. After, they played Be Kind Rewind. It was not as good as I was hoping. I slept for a bit before we stopped for a bathroom break. I played with a cute dog. I then slept the rest of the way.

4-23-10

I woke up around 8:15 for breakfast and tea. I listened to music and wrote for the first part. We finally got there. I hung out with people. We met up with the people who were on the other bus. We got lunch and hung out. We then got a laydown on all the rules and agenda for the weekend. My friend Ryan, who coincidentally is originally from Greensboro, and I headed out to explore.

We walked along the road. We found some chill places. We climbed some rocks. We saw a guy who tried to tell us to grab his soccer ball that was floating down the river. We chased and chased but didn't catch up to it. After, Ryan and I observed the surrounding area to see if there was a good place to jump into the river. After much debate about time and if we should do it, we jumped in.

Ryan went first and I followed. The current pulled us pretty fast. Ryan reached the other side and extended his hand for me. I luckily grabbed it. We climbed the rocks and searched for a place to jump in the river. Then we decided it would be best to just go back to our stuff and head back. But the current was so strong that we had to pick the right place. This proved difficult. At I slipped a couple times, including one time really hard against a rock. There also some places where the water was spinning in circles that I had to avoid. I tried to swim across but failed. Eventually, Ryan found a good place and did. I tried to do but ended up further down river a little in a thorn bush that cut me all over the place. I met up with Ryan and put on my clothing quickly and we hurried back to the hotel because we thought we were late.

Turns out no one was ready. I changed shoes. We met up as a group and headed out on our hike. It was relatively easy one. We had dogs that followed us the whole way. At one point, we had to run down a part which was a lot of fun. After we got back, it was time for snacks. After which, we hung out and some people played basketball while others commentated.

Then we had dinner. Then we had a party in one of the cabins which was a lot of fun since most of our group was there. We sang including a group rendition of "Lean on Me", talked and what not. Eventually I headed to bed.

4-24-10
I woke up and went to breakfast. After, I had the choice of rappelling or free time. I chose free time. I hung out with some of the guys. We talked and played Foosball. After, four of us decided to go horseback riding. We got on our horses. Mine was a cautious one and a relatively newbie. We rode up and down mountains. The views were spectacular. I love the desert. So beautiful. We galloped and sometimes it felt that my horse was double timing it to catch up. After the ride, we met up with the group and ate lunch.

After lunch, we had a little down time before going wine tasting. Some people sang songs on our bus. After a 45 or hour bus ride, we got to the first winery. It was massive. The company's name is Algodon. They are originally from New York. The vineyard had a golf course, restaurant, tennis courts besides the vineyard. We walked around and learned about their process of making wine before trying their wine. It was not as great as I was thinking it would be. We then headed back.

After a short ride, we arrived at a smaller, family own winery. We saw some of their livestock which included some MASSIVE PIGS. They reminded me of the pigs from Hannibal, and I worried about my health. We then saw their process of making wine. It was different. After, I tried their dessert wine and Malbec. I bought their Malbec and some raisins. We then headed back to the hotel. After snack time, most of the guys and I played Foosball, Pool or Ping Pong. It was chill, then we had dinner.

After dinner, we had a similar party to the night before. Then we started to play Capture the Flag. It was a lot of fun. Then we chilled more. I went to wash my hands, and the faucet sprayed water all over the place. It kept rushing after I turned it off so I tried to stop it with a towel while people tried to find someone to help. The lobby was locked but we got someone's attention. He came and checked it out. After slowing it down but not finishing the job, he walked off. Then the water pressure increased. After fighting it some more, we tried to find the guy again but all the person said was tomorrow he or someone will fix it (proof I am not in the First World). So the boys in the cabin were stuck there with water flooding. We made a joke out of it by calling the cabin Team Pirate. Eventually I headed to bed.

4-25-10
I woke up and headed to breakfast. The water was still flooding in the cabin. We told the people who were supervising us for the weekend. They got people to turn off the water. We all got changed for river rafted and headed down the road to the place. We got dressed in our goofy outfits and got instructions. We then headed down the river. It was a lot of fun. The river was extremely calm compared to the Rogue River. I bounced around from boat to boat, either by kidnapping, or jumping ship and ending up in another. After, we got on buses back. My bus had a dance party on it which was fun.

We changed out of the outfits and headed back to the hotel and ate lunch. We boys then had to talk the hotel about the costs. The manager was trying to charge 500 pesos for the damage but we argued and won, with some help, that the faucet was old and was bound to break. So we didn't have to pay for any of it. After, I grabbed my camera and hiking boots and walked. I decided to climb the mountain right near my hotel. It was pretty much all rock and some dead bushes, there was no trail. It was difficult and scary at times. I had to push myself but when I made it to the top. I felt so strong. I felt so alive. I felt amazing. I eventually climbed down, resulting in more scratches on my body, and watched some of my friends play a pick up soccer game. Then it was snack time. After, I quickly packed my bag and said bye to people going on the other bus before boarding my own.

On the bus, we played a game of Bingo, this time. I was only one away from winning. Then I wrote in my journal and listened to music. I especially turned up the music to avoid hearing High School 3 playing. Then I had dinner which was alright. After, they played V for Vendetta. After, I fell asleep.

4-26-10
I woke up at 8 when we pulled up to school. I headed back to the residencia. There, I had breakfast before talking to Abbey and relaxing. I showered and unpacked. Eventually it was time for lunch. I then headed to school with Chelsey. In history class, we talked about Juan Peron and the 60's in South America. In Spanish, we talked about our upcoming midterm among other things. I then headed home to relax and talk to Abbey and edit photos. Unfortunately the internet is really bad here at times. So it made it hard.

It is nice to relax after such an amazing weekend. Photos will be up sometime soon. This weekend was amazing for among other things, I lived for me and for me alone. I did what made me happy and feel alive.

Some quotes from my list that are especially applicable this weekend
1) “I would like to learn, or remember, how to live.” – Annie Dillard
2) "Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread.” – Edward Abbey
3) "I read somewhere... how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong, but to feel strong... to measure yourself at least once." - Christopher McCandless
4) "Love the world and yourself in it, move through it as though it offers no resistance, as though the world is your natural element." – Audrey Niffenegger
5) “Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in.” – Ricky Fitts – American Beauty
6) “I see my path, but I don't know where it leads. Not knowing where I'm going is what inspires me to travel it.” - Rosalia de Castro
7) “No man should go through life without once experiencing healthy, even bored solitude in the wilderness, finding himself depending solely on himself and thereby learning his true and hidden strength.” – Jack Kerouac
8) "It is enough that I am surrounded with beauty." – Everett Ruess
9) “To the desert go prophets and hermits; through deserts go pilgrims and exiles. Here the leaders of the great religions have sought the therapeutic and spiritual values of retreat, not to escape but to find reality.” - Paul Shepard

Only 8 weeks left until I am in Seattle. So strange...
I plan to go to Salta in a few weeks either alone or with people.

A scene out a movie

4-21-10
I woke up. I ate breakfast and studied. I showered then studied more. I took a break to watch Lost. Then I studied more. I dropped off laundry and grabbed my bag and headed to lunch. I studied more. I got on the bus and try to study some more. Around being 3 or 4 minutes away from the school driving, we collided with a car, taking off one its side view mirrors. While the two drivers conversed, I was worried that I wouldn't make it to school in time (though i had like 35 minutes but wanted time to study). So I jumped off the bus and sprinted to school. Luckily I had the right music playing (Pretty Lights), it gave me the energy to move fast. I jumped by people, ran through crossWALKS and jumped over things all in order to school. I was getting stared at by strangers, who probably were like why is this person running? I felt like I was in a movie. A bit epic. I made to school, the ten blocks or so, in five or ten minutes.

There, I relaxed and studied in the cafeteria. I then headed down ten minutes early and studied with people. It was time to take the exam. The first question was what were pros and cons of globalization. I could some what make that up based on discussion and my previous class on globalization. The second question was about the external factors that affect the Latin American economies. I knew some and one spot blank. The next was about Mercosur and its original reasons for existence. Similar as the previous. The big question was about the proposals and suggestions for helping the Latin American economies. I think I did alright but not amazing. I need a 4 to pass but hoping for 6 so I don't have to worry about this stuff on the Final. I then hung out with the four amazing people who run my program here. One who preformed the very crucial duty of cleaning my glasses, since I didn't do a good enough job according to her. We talked about randoms stuff and other people joined us. I had a very delicious freshly squeezed strawberry and orange juice. I also did my Spanish homework.

In Spanish class, we talked more about the future tense and also learned some more grammatical stuff. I then headed home. Less eventful bus ride. At home, I chilled which was nice. Tomorrow evening, I leave for Mendoza but I will post before I leave.

Changing Directions and Apperances

4-20-10
I woke up in time for breakfast but missed the eggs unfortunately. I ate some cereal before heading back to my room to quickly shower before class. I then headed out. I took the bus with some friends. I chit chated with people before class. In class, we discussed Populism and how it got its rise. It was quite interesting. After class, my friend Mark and I discussed how some of the roads (most are one ways) are changing directions due to a major street becoming a two way. Literally a street will go one way and change the direction the next day. It happened to one of the streets my residencia is on the corner of. I then headed home for lunch.

At lunch, I ate talked to friends about midterms and what not. After, I studied a bit for my econ mid term that I have tomorrow. Ugh. Not really looking forward to it. I then headed out and got a hair cut (you should be happy mom and dad). After, I spent most of the afternoon studying minus a skype date with Abbey. I ate dinner and studied more. Took a break for ice cream. Despite my studying, I am still iffy. This is not my area of expertise so it is having trouble clicking in my mind.

The Saviour on Calle Sinclair

4-19-10
I was going to wake up for breakfast but preferred to sleep a bit longer. When I did wake up, I went to check Facebook and emails before heading out to the hostel. There, I was given the number of the IT guy who fixed my computer last time. When I got back to my residencia, I called them. They said they couldn't come to me but I could come to them. They were on Calle Sinclair. I laughed at the irony (is it ironic?). I headed out and got there. The guys were really nice. They offered me something to drink which I asked for water. The process of cleaning out my computer took three hours but they also showed me how to got rid of some other stuff that were dangerous as well as registering my anti virus so then I can now check in the future. After all their help, I headed back and dropped off my computer and grabbed my stuff for school.

I missed my first class, so I grabbed lunch before my Spanish class. In class, we talked about Space, what we would do with ten million dollars and more. After class, I headed home. At home, I chilled before starting to study for my midterm that is on Wednesday. I am not really excited for it. I also downloaded some music, including Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, a band I am considering seeing in Seattle, even if it is the first night I am home. As my brother described them, a flashback to Motown days. I also listened to a radio segment my grandfather did about living with Cancer. It was really interesting and cool to hear him talk so openly about it.

I am currently fighting a cold. I think the bug that entered my computer has left it and come into my body. I am trying to fight it with orange juice, tissues and cough drops.

"Do you think the end of the world is coming?"..."so says the preacher man"

4-18-10
I woke up. No progress on my computer. Looks like I have a date with an IT guy tomorrow. I went across the street and checked emails and Facebook and stuff. I was able to talk to Abbey for a bit which was nice. I then read the rest of Seven Madmen, which I really liked and want to read the sequel, if I can find it in English. I then went to get lunch. After lunch, I walked around a ferria. I considered buying a shirt but I wasn´t sure how it would look on me so I need a partner in crime to give me opinions. I also saw some nice dress pants which I think I am going to buy since I want some nice pants so I can have a nice night out here. After coming home, I did my Spanish homework before writing my portion of a presentation about Seven Madmen.

I was able to talk to Abbey some more as well as Meaghan and my mom and brother, whose birthday it is. It was nice to talk about random stuff. I also communicated with my doctor who made it seem that I am really close to getting my remicade treatment which is a good thing. Throughout this process, there was a crazy store of a flash floods, lighting and hail but it only lasted like thirty minutes or so.

Plan for tomorrow, wake up, eat breakfast (if I am up in time), go to the hostel, find out when the guy can come look at my computer, depending on when he can come I will eat lunch and also maybe go to class if his coming doesn´t conflict with it but I am not sure, then eat dinner and do homework. I hope to have a working computer tomorrow.

63.5 days till home. 74.5 days until my birthday.

The Never Ending War with Technology....

4-17-10
Today, I woke up and checked up on my computer. No progress. This is frustrating. Due to that, I went to the computer room in the residencia across the street. There, I checked emails, facebook etc. I got a facebook message from my 11th grade math teacher, Mr. Robertson. Him and his family are moving back to Seattle so we might catch up over the summer which would be cool. After, I left this computer, I tried another scan but alas no change. Whatever is in my computer, is in deep. The pro is that it forces me to be more focused on work. The con is that I need my computer for work coming up. Looks like I will be using one of the computers across the street or in an internet cafe tomorrow to type something up. I read a good portion of the book for literature. After reaching a stopping point, I grabbed some empanadas for lunch. After, I read more before reaching another stopping point.

I walked the four blocks to my hostel here, where the ladies who still remember me told me that if I came on Monday, the guy can look at it. UGH. I tried to download some software to try to solve the problem. But one required my computer to update some stuff which it couldn't due since to make it work, I have to keep my computer in safe mode, but that means no internet. So it looks like I am stuck without my computer until Monday. Booo. The never ending battle with technology continues. 65 days till I am home, 76 until my birthday which means a new and much needed computer. I will continue to read for a bit more before I am going out to meet up with some of my friends from my trip to Mendoza.

So I guess, the best way to reach me is via email at the moment or facebook. :(. Hopefully it can be fixed on Monday.

Mom, I guess for skyping for Nick's birthday tomorrow, email me a time that works and I can either ask one of my friends to borrow their computer for like ten or so minutes or go to a internet cafe.

Cat Power Fueled Nap

4-16-10
I woke up and relaxed most of the morning. My computer was being slow, which I thought was nothing new. I read and hung out with people most of the morning. I went to lunch and then headed to class. In class, since it was make up one for history, we watched a documentary about Juan and Eva Peron. It was interesting to learn about his rise. I am interested to read more about the subject. After, I picked up my police record and got a form from the school. Then I picked up my blood work and dropped it off at my doctor.

I headed home. At home, my computer was still slow. So I did a malware scan. While this happened, I took a nap which is rare for me. It was enjoyable. Cat Power is the right music for a nap. I just put all of her music on and put it on shuffle and slept. So amazing a sleep. My computer got some of it but still acted up so I am doing it as I write this on a friend´s computer. Only 11 weeks, exactly, until my birthday and a new computer!!!! I ate dinner and hung with friends. I also am getting closer apparently to getting Remicade which is exciting.

Peace
